LAC LA BICHE - Those who ventured to Christy Creek Honey in Lac La Biche County on Saturday were in for a sweet experience. The honey farm, owned by Joanne and Rob Wicker and located near Craigend in Lac La Biche County, was one of several small farming operations across the Lakeland region that opened their doors to the public over the weekend of Aug. 19-20 for Alberta Open Farm Days.
Throughout the day, visitors were given tours of the beekeeping and honey making operations. And while the there was a considerable amount of buzz about the roughly one million bees who reside on the farm and their role in producing honey – much of which is sold locally – the full day of events at Christy Creek Honey also included face painting, demonstrations by members of the Lac La Biche Art Club, a children's library about bees, and guided walks through an historic railroad trail near the property.
