LAC LA BICHE - The board for Lac La Biche County Libraries is seeking input from the public to assist staff with developing the library system’s five-year plan of service.
According to Maya Fisher, director for Lac La Biche County Libraries, under the Alberta Libraries Act, all library boards in the province are required to create a plan of service (POS) every three or five years.
“We are just in the beginning stages of planning for our next POS for 2026-2030,” Fisher told Lakeland This Week.
Fisher stated that the POS is a strategic plan and at a high level it describes the services the library will provide to the community in that time.
“It is a governance tool that can set out certain goals for the library and informs how the library will serve the community,” she stated.
From now until March 3, Fisher said, Lac La Biche County Libraries has a survey out and is inviting community members to complete it. The survey collects information on why people use the library, their level of satisfaction with programs and services offered by the library, along with what service areas they view as a priority.
The results of the survey will be used to information the upcoming POS.
“To develop this plan, we will conduct surveys and a focus group meeting to gain an understanding of the community’s feedback on the library services and to get their input on future priorities,” she said. “Then the Library Board and Library staff will work on creating the full POS.”
According to Fisher, the survey can be found at this link: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/LJ28GZ6.
The POS, or plan of service, she said, is required to be completed by 2026.
