Hamlet of Lac La Biche residents affected by Wednesday night's water service disruption were seeing the utility restored on Thursday afternoon, say municipal officials.
At 2:30pm Thursday, Lac La Biche County officials said the services to all properties affected by the water line breaks were being restored.
Safe to drink
Officials say there may be some dis-colouration in the initial flow to household taps, but it will only be temporary.
"We ask residents to run cold water taps if they notice dis-colouration," said Lac La Biche County spokesperson Jihad Moghrabi. "As always, the dis-colouration is temporary, and the water is still safe to use and drink."
The initial water main breaks were noticed on Wednesday night during a response to a garage fire by the Lac La Biche County's Fire Services. The water issues did not affect the fire call, which saw a garage and its contents destroyed. No injuries were reported from the fire.
The water outage that resulted from county crews trying to isolate and repair the line breaks affected 68 homes in the areas along 103 Street between 94 and 101 Avenues.
While water services are being restored to residences, the section of 103 Street from 94 Avenue to 99 avenue will remain closed until construction areas have been cleared.
"The road in the affected area will still be closed for a few more hours to allow our crews time to backfill the excavated area and clean up," said Moghrabi on Thursday afternoon.
