LAC LA BICHE - Youth in the Lac La Biche area can express their artistic side while having plenty of fun through the Creative Kids Art Program.
Hannah Williams, a recreation programmer for Lac La Biche County, says the program runs for six weeks in the fall, winter, and spring. The sessions are held on Tuesdays from 4:30-6 p.m. inside the Bold Centre Wildrose Room.
Participants are introduced to different art mediums and techniques, such as painting, drawing, leatherwork, sculpting and mixed media.
“The Creative Kids Art Program is an opportunity for kids ages six to 12 to use their imagination and creativity in a fun and friendly atmosphere,” says Williams.
Those who participate in the Creative Kids Art Program can work on different projects, some taking place over a couple of weeks. According to Williams, in January, participants worked on clay Tic-Tac-Toe game boards over two sessions.
The first session focused on learning clay sculpting techniques and shaping the boards.
“In the second session, kids explored colour theory, painting their creations using primary colors and the color wheel,” says Williams.
The Creative Kids program is beneficial for young people because it encourages creativity, self-expression, and problem solving.
“Kids develop fine motor skills, patience, and confidence while exploring different art techniques and materials,” she says.
