LAC LA BICHE – On Jan. 28, crews were at the intersection of 101 Avenue and 100 Street in the hamlet of Lac La Biche conducting camera inspections of sewer lines in preparation for the third and final phase of the $32.5 million Main Street Revitalization Project, which is slated to get underway this spring.
Ali Memon, Lac La Biche County’s general manager of infrastructure, explained the camera inspections involve running a remote camera up the sewer lines.
“In this case, the purpose was to verify the pipe materials and condition, so we can determine exactly where we need to tie into the existing sewer mains during the Lac La Biche Main Street Revitalization Project,” Memon told Lakeland This Week on Jan. 29.
Getting this work done now is important to the County, as it allows officials to tailor the municipality’s traffic accommodation plan and construction plan to the exact conditions.
“This is a proactive approach that will ensure we are prepared once the crews arrive to site,” said Memon.
As stated in information from Lac La Biche County from Jan. 27, motorists were told to expect partial traffic interruptions at the intersection, and that traffic control persons would be guiding vehicles and pedestrians through the area.
Other work is slated to be done prior to the commencement of the makeover of Lac La Biche’s main street. The final portion of the project will take place on 101 Avenue between 100 Street and 101 Street. The section of roadway, from the Alberta Treasury Branch to Lac La Biche Sporting Goods, will be closed to traffic for the duration of the project.
According to Memon, there are still a handful of outstanding streetscape features that will be installed over the winter, including planter lights from Phase Two of the project, which took place from April to October 2024, wayfinding signs, as well as the bollards at the 101 Street intersection.
