LAC LA BICHE - On July 27, the Lac La Biche Regional Humane Society hosted the Dog Days Summer Fair.
Jewels Hampshire, the operations manager at the local Humane Society, said the purpose of the fair was to promote adoption and allow people to visit with the animals inside the shelter, but also for the public to learn about the work that goes on at the facility.
The day featured games, snacks and refreshments, door prizes, a garage sale and surplus pet food sale, along with and a children’s colouring contest.
“They can see the dogs, they can see the cats… they’ll be able to do microchipping also and nail trims… and then the proceeds will go to the shelter,” Hampshire told Lakeland This Week, adding, the fair also included tours of the Humane Society's building.
While the society has held public open houses in the past and other events to promote animal adoption, this marks the first time the shelter has put on a fair.
The Dog Days Summer Fair also aims to gather donations to be put toward the future expansion of a quarantine building on the shelter site. This building, Hampshire explained, will be used to separate dogs that are sick from the ones that are healthy.
