'Easter at the Mission' event returns on April 19

The Lac La Biche Mission historical site has been hosting the annual Easter afternoon of fun activities since 2023.

LAC LA BICHE – On April 19, kids will have the opportunity to meet the Easter Bunny and enjoy an afternoon of fun activities at the Lac La Biche Mission’s third annual ‘Easter at the Mission’ event.

According to Christelle Shepherd, site administrator for the Lac La Biche Mission, those who attend this year’s afternoon Easter-themed gathering, can participate in egg hunts and do crafts. There will also be a petting zoo on the grounds of the historical site featuring a variety of animals such as sheep, goats, and donkeys.

With the 2025 edition of ‘Easter at the Mission’ taking place a day before Easter Sunday, the Easter Bunny is also scheduled to stop by for the festivities.

Shepherd said since it began in 2023, ‘Easter at the Mission’ has grown increasingly popular and helps to encourage visitors to return and support the historic site.

“Holding this event annually helps to engage the community, bring families together, and promote the history and activities of the Mission,” she said.

The is also a way to introduce families and young children to the historical significance of the Lac La Biche Mission in a fun and engaging way.

By hosting activities such as an egg hunt, crafts, and a petting zoo, the Mission creates an inviting atmosphere that encourages community involvement and appreciation for local heritage.

“Additionally, the bilingual aspect of the event [English and French] ensures inclusivity for the region’s diverse population,” Shepherd stated.

Admission to the event is by donation. Money raised through the Easter-themed afternoon of fun goes back to the historical site, which hosts a variety of events throughout the year.

“Any funds exceeding event costs will go toward organizing future events,” Shepherd said.
