Fibre optics being installed to connect Lac La Biche County buildings and camera sites

Work on installing fibre optics will be taking place in the hamlet of Lac La Biche over the next couple of months.

LAC LA BICHE - Over the next couple of months, construction crews installing fibre optics will be a common sight as they work in different areas of the hamlet of Lac La Biche. 

According to Travis Simmons, Lac La Biche County’s manager of information and technology services, fibre optics are being installed to interconnect most of the County buildings and camera sites located within the hamlet of Lac La Biche.  

“There will be directional drilling along 91 Avenue, Nipewon Road, Beaver Hill Road (in front of the Protective Services Building), 101 Ave in and around McArthur Park, beside the cemetery, Crescent Heights and 95 Street,” Simmons explained. 

According to Simmons, construction work started during the week of March 24 and is expected to be wrapped up before June 1. All work is being completed by contractors, Chermik Technical Services.  

The construction schedule is as follows: 

  • March 24-28 - 91 Ave, Nipewon Road and Ford Building.  

  • March 31 – April 14 – McArthur Park, 101 Ave, Cemetery, Crescent Heights and 95 Street. 

  • April 22 – May 5 - Clean up previous areas. 

  • May 19 – May 23rd - Railroad crossing. 

The schedule “may change depending on weather or other needs,” he stated.
