PLAMONDON - Locally sourced food will be on the menu at the second annual Field to Table Dinner and Show.

The event, which is organized by the Plamondon and District Agricultural Society, is set to take place on Aug. 30 at the Plamondon Festival Centre.

Lena Labonte, a member of the Plamondon and District Ag Society, who is involved with organizing the event, said this year’s Field to Table Dinner and Show will feature a meal at 7 p.m. followed by a performance from Edmonton-based mentalist Jeff Newman at 8:30 p.m.

The theme for the evening, she explained, will be centred around farmers and agricultural producers.

Guests who attend the evening of local food and entertainment will have the opportunity to enjoy locally grown meat along with a variety of vegetables such as beets, carrots, and lettuce. There will so be an assortment of delectable desserts on offer made from local berries.

“We like to feature raspberry, rhubarb and Saskatoon desserts,” Labonte told Lakeland This Week.

Labonte said the Field to Table Dinner and Show not only showcases local food, but also pays tribute to growers and producers, and provides people with information about where their food comes from. She said the idea to host an event to celebrate local producers came about in 2022, and the first Field to Table Dinner and Show was held at the Plamondon Festival Centre that year.

“Basically, it’s a celebration of our growers… our producers,” she said.

The inaugural Field to Table Dinner and Show, Labonte continued, was very successful, drawing 200 people for the evening. There was also a guest speaker, Saskatchewan-based farmer and motivational speaker Lesley Kelly, who spoke about the various issues faced by agricultural producers, including mental health challenges.

The Plamondon and District Agricultural Society was set to host the event again last year. However, due to unforeseen circumstances, it had to be cancelled. Organizers are hopeful that the dinner and show on Aug. 30 will be another success.

“It’s important to celebrate the agriculture people… to take time off and just enjoy with a nice dinner, and an event, and visit with friends and neighbours,” she said.

According to the Plamondon and District Community Development Society (PDCDS), tickets are $40 and were available at the PDCDS office until Aug. 23.
