LAC LA BICHE - It was a weekend filled with fun and activity in Lac La Biche as the community celebrated Summer Days from Aug. 4-6.

According to Summer Days President Neil Timm, organizing the massive three-day community celebration takes a considerable amount of time and effort, much of which fell on the shoulders of volunteers representing a coalition of non-profit organizations.

“It was truly a group effort,” he said. “We couldn’t do this without the help of so many volunteers.”

While committee oversees the administration of Lac La Biche Summer Days, it is the community organizations comprised of hundreds of volunteers such as the Lac La Biche Heritage Center and Rotary Club, who do the hands-on work, organizing the various events ranging from pancake breakfasts to the traditional community fish fry, as well as major attractions such as the parade and slo-pitch tournament.

“We are largely hands off and let the groups do their own thing,” Timm said.

Ongoing construction projects on Main Street and in McArthur Park meant organizers were forced to move the Summer Days’ midway to a vacant residential lot near Aurora Middle School, while the parade route saw entries starting their route in the vicinity of St. Catherine’s Roman Catholic Church.

“The premise of hosting Summer Days this year was to give back to the community and give the local economy a boost,” said Timm. “We applaud everyone for coming out and are glad thankful that people are happy, and that everything went well.”
