Lac La Biche construction work extended two more weeks

Water projects that have been ongoing since June are not expected to be done until mid October

Construction work and road closures will go on for a little longer than expected on some long-running projects in Lac La Biche.

Two of the main projects that will need more time to complete have been in progress since June of this year.

Work on the 101A Street and 104 Ave. sewer and water replacement project and the 105 Street water watermain and utility pipe replacement has been extended until Oct. 18.

In a Lakeland This Week article from Sept. 12, Ali Memon, Lac La Biche County’s general manager of infrastructure, said the 105 Street project would be completed before the end of September.   Memon also said the other utility line replacement on 104 Ave. between 103 Street and 101 Street near the Lac La Biche Legion may go slightly past its September 30 anticipated completion date.

On October 14, Lac La Biche County officials said the projects could take another two weeks to complete.

Memon tells Lakeland This Week that the contractor who is doing the work for these projects requested a 14-day extension due to additional work that needed to be done, as well as rainy weather over the course of the project that slowed down progress. The two projects are now on target to be wrapped up by Oct. 18.

Main Street on target

This year's potion of the ongoing Main Street Revitalization Project – currently in the second of three phases – will be completed by October 31, said Memon. The $32.5 million project that will see underground utilities upgraded and many surface level updates, will continue next spring, closing off a section of the downtown core from 101 Street to 100 Street.
