LAC LA BICHE – The Lac La Biche Farmers’ Market, which has been a seasonal tradition in the community dating back to the early 1970s, has returned for 2025.
On April 11, people who stopped by the market at the Lakeland Agricom were able to shop for an assortment of homegrown food and homemade products sold by vendors from the Lac La Biche area and the Lakeland region.
One thing that many shoppers may have noticed this year is the change in hours for the weekly farmers’ market, which will be held on Fridays until mid-December. Last fall, the Lac La Biche Agricultural Society made the decision to change the hours to accommodate patrons who are employed during the day.
For the 2025 season, the doors to the market will open at 3:30 p.m. and will be open until 6:30 p.m.
Bev Tkachuk, manager of the market, said she had heard concerns from the public about the previous hours. The Lac La Biche Agricultural Society is listening to these concerns.
“We are so excited to be back, we all miss being here every Friday,” said Tkachuk on April 11.
There will also be a market this week on Good Friday, April 18, and that event will feature plenty of vendors, products, as well as prizes being given away.
The change in hours at the Lac La Biche Farmers Market for the 2025 season comes as good news to vendors such as Rosanne Rozka and Sharon Johnson.
Rozka, who sells products through the Canadian company Sunset Gourmet, as well as her own enterprise, Handy Hobbit Creations, said the change in hours should be a benefit.
“I think it’s a good idea because it’s going to catch a lot of the after work crowd,” she said.
Johnson, who lives in the Glendon area sells and products from Johnson Family Farm, such as sweets, ground beef, and pasteurized cream, said the new hours are welcome.
“People after work, after supper, they can come and take a gander around, take a look around, see what they can find,” she said.
