Lac La Biche golf course opens for the season

On April 22, maintenance staff and volunteers were removing tarps that had been protecting the greens over the late fall and winter months.

Lac La Biche – with golfing season about to begin, on the morning of April 22, maintenance staff with the Lac La Biche Golf Course, along with a handful of community volunteers, went to work removing tarps that had been protecting the greens over the late fall and winter months.

Moving around the course on golf carts, workers pulled out the spikes that had been keeping the tarps in place. Afterward, these large white sheets were folded and rolled up to be stored away until fall.

When speaking with the Lakeland This Week on April 21, Lance Palamaruk, manager of the Lac La Biche Golf Course, said the driving range opened the week prior, and is open daily.

As for the course, the back nine opened on April 25.

“Anything before May 1 is a bonus for us so we are on a good track,” Palamaruk said, adding that overall the greens are in good shape.

“The course conditions look real good for what we have seen so far,” he said.

Construction at the golf course

Those who are out enjoying a day on the links this season will once again find themselves sharing space with construction crews who are giving the golf course a makeover.

During last year’s golf season, golfers and staff at the course, which overlooks Lac La Biche lake, worked around a massive, $5 million renovation project that included work on new tee boxes, fairways, and greens.

This year’s work, which was approved by Lac La Biche County council and the golf club in 2022, and is being funded by the municipality, will involve construction on the entire front nine of the local golf course, meaning that it will not be used this season.

“Only the back nine will be playable this year,” Palamaruk stated.

Due to the work, memberships with the Lac La Biche Golf Club, as well as green fees have been altered to align with other nine-hole golf courses in the area.

“They expect all work to be completed by October and opening sometime mid-summer in 2026,” he noted
