LAC LA BICHE – The Lac La Biche Lakers continued their winning streak over the Feb. 14 weekend.
Lac La Biche handed a 12-0 defeat to the Northern Alberta Lightning on Feb. 14 at the Bold Centre, and enjoyed another home ice victory the following evening when they beat the visiting Claresholm Thunder, 16-1.
The Lakers, who began their inaugural season in the National Junior Hockey League (NJHL) in October, currently hold second spot in the five-team National Junior Hockey League (NJHL) North Division, one place behind the leading Edson Eagles. The team, which has enjoyed 13 wins in a row, will be heading to the playoffs in March.
Peyton Moneyes scored the opening goal of the Lakers’ one-sided match-up against the Lightning. This was one of two goals Moneyes would acquire throughout the evening.
Forwards Ethan Christian and Regan Anderson had three goals each during the Feb. 14 game, while Larry Flett, captain of the team, scored two.
Eli Quinney and Carl Horseman had one goal apiece.
Lac La Biche dominated the scoreboard during the Feb. 15 meeting with the Claresholm Thunder until halfway through the second period, when the Thunder’s Peyton Poncelet scored his team’s one and only goal of the game.
Anderson managed to score four goals for the Lakers, while Kaden Cardinal got onto the scoreboard three times. Braxton Pataneude and Christian and Moneyes had two goals apiece while Flett, Utin Lightning, Zach Mazurenao and Braden Swampy each scored one.
The Lakers will be at the High Prairie Sports Palace on Feb. 21 to take on the High Prairie Red Wings. The team returns to Lac La Biche on Feb. 23 for a 3:30 p.m. meeting with the Edson Eagles at the Bold Centre.
