LAC LA BICHE - Lac La Biche County Libraries is hosting the Reader’s Realm Book Club in a bid to get more youth reading and discussing books.

Laney Smith, programming coordinator for Lac La Biche County Libraries, says the Reader’s Realm Book Club is the library’s teen book club, and sessions are held on a monthly basis.

Library staff members want teens to have a fun way of learning and socializing while feeling comfortable in the library, and this program provides that opportunity.

Youth between the ages of 13 and 18 are welcome to attend the sessions, where they discuss a preselected book while enjoying refreshments.

“Each month, we’ll dive into a different book, fostering lively discussions and creative activities,” says Smith.

According to Smith, youth who would like to order the books that are talked about each month need to sign up for a free library card. Within the sessions, there will be an allotted time for discussion followed by snacks and activities.

“They can come for as much or as little of the program as they please,” she says.

The idea to start up a book club focused on youth in the community came about last fall.

The first session took place in January, with the next one planned for Feb. 20 from 4-6 p.m. at the Stuart MacPherson Public Library in Lac La Biche. Smith says the Readers Realm Book Club will happen once a month until June.

“Whether you’re an avid reader or just looking to discover new stories, this will be a fun experience for all teens,” Smith says. “Snacks, friends, and fun await . . . come turn the page with us.”
