Lac La Biche Mission hosts old-fashioned Christmas bingo

The final event at the historical site for 2024 took place on Sunday, Dec. 15.

On Sunday, Dec. 15, the Lac La Biche Mission celebrated the festive season by hosting an Old-Fashioned Christmas Bingo event.

Those who turned out at the historical site for an afternoon of fun, socializing and food had the opportunity to win up to 16 prizes. These prizes were comprised mainly of gift bags donated by local businesses, and included turkeys, warm clothing, coffee, tea, and chocolates.

During the final full-card jackpot game, players competed to win the $100 cash prize on offer. In keeping with the heritage of the site, which was established in the 1800s, players used vintage slide cards instead of more modern bingo dabbers.

The holiday-themed bingo event took place at the old schoolhouse on the Lac La Biche Mission grounds and was final event planned at the national and provincial historic site until the New Year.

Funds raised from the bingo went towards ongoing programming and other initiatives at the historic site.

Other events that have been held throughout the year to raise awareness and funds to the Lac La Biche Mission have included a snowmobile rally lunch as part of the 2024 Winter Festival of Speed, a family-themed Easter event that featured a petting zoo, egg hunt, and a visit by the Easter Bunny, a Canada Day celebration along with festivities for Alberta Culture Days, which took place in September.
