LAC LA BICHE – On April 12, people were placing their bets and trying their luck at a variety of games and activities that had been set up inside of the Bold Centre Community Hall for the 2025 edition of the Lac La Biche Regional Health Foundation’s games night.
The games night got underway at 5:30 p.m., with supper taking place at 7 p.m. Throughout the evening, attendees played games and took part in a live auction. The event is hosted annually by the Lac La Biche Regional Health Foundation as a fundraiser for the William J. Cadzow Healthcare Centre in Lac La Biche.
There was also an animal race that featured participants wearing inflatable colourful animals such as dragons, flamingos, bears and roosters. They raced against each other in three heats while the crowd watched.
According to the health foundation, last year’s games night raised over $41,000, which was used to upgrade the sliding door to the patio for the long-term care residents at the W.J. Cadzow Health Care Centre.
Omer Moghrabi, chair of the Lac La Biche Regional Health Foundation, said proceeds from this year’s games night fundraiser will go toward replacing beds at the hospital. In previous years, the foundation has purchased equipment such as a CT scanner and dialysis equipment.
The health foundation is constantly working to get items for the hospital, and that is the purpose of the night, he said.
“If you don’t have your health, you really struggle,” he said. “It provides for the community.”
People who attend the annual night of playing games, food and socialization, have given positive feedback about the event.
“It’s a good response,” he said.
A final amount raised at the 2025 event was not yet available.
