Lac La Biche winter ice festival features Indigenous cultural learning, maple sugar shack, and ice sculptures

Despite several events being cancelled due to the warm temperatures, there was still something for everyone at the 2025 Lac La Biche Ice Festival.

LAC LA BICHE – Despite several events being cancelled due to the warm temperatures, there was still something for everyone at the 2025 Lac La Biche Ice Festival, including an opportunity to learn about Indigenous cultural teachings, enjoy maple taffy candy, and see artists creating ice sculptures.

On March 1 and 2, an 18-foot First Nations teepee and Métis tent were set up on the ice. People could listen to stories from elders and enjoying freshly-made bannock.

A winter festival would not be complete without a classic Canadian sugar shack, and over the two days, people stopped by to watch maple syrup being hardened in the snow before eating it.

Artists were also on the ice of Lac La Biche carving ice sculptures, which were put on display for people to view.
