Lakers achieve nine wins in a row with 15-0 victory over Lightning

The team currently hold third place in the NHJL North Division, only four points behind the second-place High Prairie Red Wings.

LAC LA BICHE - The Lac La Biche Lakers continued their winning streak on Feb. 7, overwhelming the visiting Northern Alberta Lightning with a 15-0 victory that kept their National Junior Hockey League (NJHL) opponents off the scoreboard entirely.

The Lakers have won 10 games in a row and currently hold second place in the NHJL North Division.

At just over three minutes into the first period, Lakers forward Kaden Cardinal, who the team recently acquired from the High Prairie Red Wings, scored the inaugural goal of the game and the first of four he would score throughout the evening.

Before the final buzzer sounded, Lac La Biche’s Regan Anderson and Zach Mazurenao managed to get three goals apiece while forward Jaron Shirt and Bryton Tabak had two each.

At the beginning of the third period, Peyton Moneyas, with assistance from Cardinal and team captain Larry Flett, scored his only goal of the match.

The Lakers grabbed another win on Feb. 9 against the Lightning while on the road, but this time the game was much closer, with a 5-4 final score.

The team will be back on home ice at the Bold Centre on Feb. 14 to play the Lightning again. The Lakers will also be hosting the Claresholm Thunder on Feb. 15. Both of those games take place at 7:30 p.m.
