Lakers continue winning streak with victory over Edson Eagles

The Lac La Biche Lakers game took place on Feb. 1 at Lac La Biche's Bold Centre.

LAC LA BICHE - The Lac La Biche Lakers are continuing their winning ways following a 7-1 victory over the Edson Eagles that took place on Feb. 1 at the Bold Centre.

The Lakers, who joined the National Junior Hockey League (NJHL) in October for their inaugural 2024-25 season, now hold third spot in their five-team NJHL North Division.

Saturday’s mostly one-sided game got underway with Lac La Biche’s Regan Anderson and Braxton Pataneude each getting the puck past Eagles’ goaltender Hayden Tomlinson. Utin Lightning assisted Anderson while Pataneude received help from teammates Jaron Shirt and Peyton Moneyas.

Halfway through the third period, Edson’s Aaron Doka, with assistance from Kurtis Francis, scored the team’s first and only goal of the game.

The Lakers quickly got back into offensive mode, attacking Edson’s net and racking up five unanswered goals before the final buzzer.

Braden Swampy, Kaden Cardinal and Grayson Dion each scored, while the final two for the Lakers were acquired by forward Carl Horseman.

The Lakers are back in action over the Feb. 7 weekend with a trio of games set to take place both in Lac La Biche and on the road. The team will be at the Bold Centre on Feb. 7 for a 7:30 p.m. contest against the Northern Alberta Lightning.

The Lakers will head to the High Prairie Sports Palace on Saturday where the team will take on the High Prairie Red Wings. Staying on the road, the Lakers will make their way to Mayorthorpe on Feb. 9 for an evening rematch against the Northern Alberta Lightning.
