LAC LA BICHE - To the general public, it may seem that the 105 St. water and sewer installation project near the Independent grocery store in Lac La Biche is taking a long time to complete.
The project, says Lac La Biche County General Manager of Infrastructure Ali Memon, is more than a simple water project, however.
The job, which got underway in April, involves repairs and new installations of several key utility components.
Memon tells Lakeland This Week that a considerable amount of work is involved in the project that is expected to be wrapped up by mid-September.
“The project comprises a sanitary forcemain, watermain, paved roads, ditches, and several water and sanitary services connections,” he said.
Traffic disruptions continue
The project has forced the closure of several sections of roadway and intersections along 105 Street leading from the bypass road to Main Street.
According to a Lac La Biche County officials, sections of the roadway are “expected to be closed as needed, likely for the duration of the construction.”
According to Memon, while construction crews have faced some challenges over the past few months, including wet weather conditions, relocation and realignment of shallow utilities, as well as a railway crossing that is at the centre of the worksite, the project is progressing on schedule.
Going into the final three weeks of the construction timeframe, underground utilities such as water and sewer lines have been installed, and a section of road is being prepared for asphalt, Memon told the Lac La Biche Post newsroom on Aug. 20.
