Mister pelican and his gull-friends

A pelican and seagulls rest at the end of the small dock near the David Thompson statue in Lac La Biche last Friday. While most of the migratory pelicans have started their trip south from Lac La Biche, the lone pelican has been seen along the shoreline in recent days, many times with other birds.

The pelicans that visit the Lac La Biche region – which is a globally-designated International Birding Area – are American White pelicans, one of eight species of pelican in the world. Pelicans have a life span in the wild of between 15 and 25 years. Want another bird fact? The seagulls resting with the pelican in the photo have a lifespan of 25 years.
