LAC LA BICHE - With Lac La Biche County’s Lakeland Archers getting set to host the 2024 World Archery Field Championships, local organizers are seeking more volunteers to help out during the week-long archery competition from Sept. 16-24.
Volunteer coordinator Pat Boon Anderson said volunteers are needed to run different areas during the World Archery Field Championships. These include working access control at the competition site and the Bold Center, escorting athletes for anti-doping tests, assisting in organizing participants in the opening, awarding and closing ceremonies as well as carrying medals and gifts for the award ceremonies, and helping with site clean up.
“The archery club has a website for people to check out that gives the volunteer positions and descriptions needed,” she told Lakeland This Week, adding that people can sign up using the site.
Boon Anderson continued by saying that the event is still over four months away. Therefore, there is still time to fill volunteer positions. While many volunteers have already signed up, she said more are still needed.
In a bid to garner more interest and grow the ranks of local volunteers to help out with the archery competition, Boon Anderson said posters as well as table-tents with information about volunteer roles and how to sign up were made and then placed around Lac La Biche. Furthermore, efforts were made to get the table-tents into local food establishments so that people would read the information while they wait for their food.
Boon Anderson said there are many advantages to volunteering for the World Archery Field Championships, which are expected to draw more than 300 competitive archers from around the world.
“By volunteering you get to meet people from all over the world, learn about the sport and assist our community to showcase our cultures, beautiful area and our LLB hospitality,” she said.
