Princess Tea returns with two-day format

The popular event, which is hosted by the Lac La Biche Agricultural Society and features Disney princesses and special themes, has been taking place annually for over a decade.

LAC LA BICHE - For over a decade, the Princess Tea has given young kids in the Lac La Biche area an opportunity to enjoy an afternoon of fun while socializing with Disney princesses.

Due to popular demand, when the event returns this year, it will have a two-day format instead of one.

Bev Tkachuk of the Lac La Biche Agricultural Society – the group that hosts the Princess Tea - said organizers decided to hold the long-running community event over two days because tickets sell out quickly and this will give more people the change to attend.

This year’s Princess Tea is set to take place at the Lakeland Agricom in Lac La Biche on Feb. 8 and Feb. 9 from 1-3 p.m. each day.

“We don’t want any of the little girls not to have the opportunity to come and meet the princesses,” Tkachuk told Lakeland This Week, going on to explain that the Princess Tea has been very well received in the local community and draws a large crowd every year. “That’s why we’re now going to do two days, so we that don’t have to say no to anybody.”

According to Tkachuk, those who attend the 2025 edition of the Princess Tea will have a delightful time getting their hair and nails done while chatting with around a dozen princesses from popular Disney shows.

There will also be plenty of tea, snacks and delectable desserts served to the girls and their families who stop by for the tea party.

“It’s all about the little girls just being pampered that day,” she said.

Each Princess Tea, Tkachuk said, has a special theme. The theme for last year’s event was ‘Under the Sea’ and was inspired by the iconic Disney classic ‘The Little Mermaid.’ In addition to the tea that was served, the 2024 Princess Tea also featured specially themed food such as crab sandwiches, along with other colourful delicacies.

The theme for this year’s Princess Tea will remain a secret until the event arrives.

“We want to surprise the girls when they walk through the door with what they’re going to see,” she said.

The idea to put on a special function to bring local children and princesses together for an afternoon of merriment originated from a ‘princess ball’ hosted in Red Deer.

Most girls from the area won’t get the opportunity to go to Disneyland at a young age, so organizers decided to bring a bit of Disneyland to Lac La Biche.

The Princess Tea, Tkachuk said, is not a fundraiser for the Lac La Biche Agricultural Society, but rather an event that gives back to the community. Everyone who lends a hand with the Princess Tea volunteers their time and talents for the special afternoon.

“To watch the little ones come and see these princesses like that, it’s just heartwarming,” she said.

Tickets for the 2025 Princess Tea cost $15 per child and $20 for adults and went on sale on Jan. 7. To purchase tickets or for more information about the event, contact Bev Tkachuk at 780-623-0503.
