Spooktacular returns on Oct. 27

The popular Halloween-themed event, which has been held in Lac La Biche since 2016, will take place at the Bold Centre on Oct. 27 from 1:30-4p.m.

LAC LA BICHE - The annual Halloween Spooktacular in Lac La Biche is less than 20 sleeps away – hopefully sleeps that don’t include any bumps in the night or strange noises coming from under the bed.

The annual ‘Spooktacular’ celebration takes place on Sunday, Oct. 27 from 1:30-4 p.m. at the Lac La Biche Bold Center. The annual event that draws crowds from across the region once again promises to be a ghoulishly good time for kids and their families.

According to Jordan Green – a programming director for Lac La Biche County who appeared for the Lakeland This Week interview out of a swirling mist of fog after the third calling of her name – the 2024 edition of Spooktacular will feature a sweet-and-scary Candy Carnival theme.

Last year’s theme was ‘Mad Science, offering a combination of science and scares, potions, and laughs.

It’s fun to organize the events for the community around themes, says Green, who didn’t rub her hands together and offer a ghoulish giggle as she spoke.

“This year’s Candy Carnival theme adds an extra layer of excitement, offering interactive games, activities, and plenty of treats, all designed to spark joy and foster positive connections among children and their families,” she told Lakeland This Week, adding that the afternoon of fun will also feature shows on the stage inside of the Bold Center, a costume contest, and photo booth.

The first Spooktacular event scared up some attention in 2016 but was geared more for pre-school toddlers as an alternative to trick-or-treating in the community. But like a Frankenstein monster growing as new parts are added, the event has evolved into a monster-sized creation for children of all ages and families. More than 700 people were in attendance for last year’s science-themed Halloween party, she added.

Events such as Spooktacular, Green continued, create a safe environment for families to celebrate Halloween together. Furthermore, the municipally-hosted event encourage kids to engage in their community and make lasting memories with friends, family members, and others in the community.

“It brings the community closer while giving kids the opportunity to enjoy the holiday in a creative and engaging way,” she said with a smile – but not one big enough to show her fangs.
