21-year-old charged in connection to Bonnyville hit and run

Bonnyville RCMP confirm that a 21-year-old has been charged with careless driving and failing to remain at the scene of a collision after the Bonnyville resident had allegedly struck a parked car and the front steps of a house early Wednesday morning.

BONNYVILLE – Charges have been laid against a 21-year-old Bonnyville man who allegedly struck a parked car and the front steps of a house at around 1:30 a.m. on July 13. 

“The driver of the offending vehicle drove into a parked vehicle with so much force that it also struck the front deck of a home,” S/Sgt. Sarah Parke told LakelandToday in a statement. 

"The driver then fled the scene but was identified the following day.” 

The 21-year-old has been charged with careless driving under the Traffic Safety Act, which comes with a fine of $567.   

“He was additionally charged with Failing to Remain at the Scene of a Collision which comes with a mandatory court appearance,” noted Parke. 

RCMP stated the identity of the 21-year-old will not being released at this time. 

The owner of the home that was hit in the incident described the event as “a tragic thing.”
