Following the initial publication of this story, Johnson's spouse, Victoria Alexander, has reached out to LakelandTODAY, and clarified that she did not request a no contact order be put in place.
She further stated that she is working to have the no contact order removed.
BONNYVILLE – Making his first court appearance in Bonnyville Provincial Court by CCTV from the Edmonton Remand Centre, Blair David Johnson who stands accused of manslaughter in the death of a 17-day-old infant, was granted bail with several conditions on March 15.
Johnson was remanded into custody on March 5, following an investigation from Alberta RCMP Serious Crimes Unit.
RCMP began the investigation after receiving a report relating to a suspicious death of an infant who had been brought to the Bonnyville Healthcare Centre at about 8:15 p.m. on Feb. 21.
The circumstances surrounding the child’s sudden death were deemed suspicious and RCMP members attended the hospital to investigate.
Johnson’s council made a first appearance in Bonnyville Provincial Court on March 8. During the initial court date, a no contact order was filed by the Crown prosecutor and a date for a bail hearing was set for March 15.
At the bail hearing both Johnson and the prosecution agreed to six conditions for his release.
Conditions for Johnson’s release include a $2,500 cash deposit, reporting to a bail supervisor within five days of release and thereafter as directed, and no contact – direct or indirect – with Johnson’s spouse.
He must also reside at a prearranged address and not change the location he is residing at without advance written consent. Johnson is also prohibited to be alone with any child under the age of 12.
Johnson’s next court appearance is scheduled for April 5 at Bonnyville Provincial Court.
