LAKELAND – The art and literary works of at least nine Lakeland students will head to Ottawa after placing in the top three spots at the provincial level of the Royal Canadian Legion’s Poster and Literary Contest.
Drawn and written works created by elementary, junior, and senior high school students were first submitted to local Legion branches. Community volunteers then determined which top submissions would be entered at the provincial level of the longstanding annual contest.
Finalists of the provincial contest are then forwarded to the Legion National Foundation in Ottawa to be judged at the national level.
The works of nine District 3 students have been added to the list of Alberta’s finalists. St. Paul and Bonnyville Legions are included in District 3.
The Poster and Literary Contests are a way for Canadian students to honour Canada’s Veterans through creative art and writing, which helps to perpetuate remembrance of the sacrifice made by members of Canada’s armed forces.
