Fort McMurray man banned from U of A campus for harassing women is sought by Wood Buffalo RCMP

Fort McMurray man with criminal past misses appointment with probation officer

Wood Buffalo RCMP issued a warning to the regional public on Friday afternoon after a man who had been recently living in the Fort McMurray area failed to report to a probation officer. RCMP say 40-year-old Faton Miftari, has been connected to several incidents of criminal harassment in recent years, including charges on September 14 of 2023 in Edmonton after he allegedly went to a woman’s home, banged on the door and looked through her windows.

Miftari was arrested later that year on December 16 and charged with trespass by night after reportedly looking in the windows of another home.

Banned from university campus

Earlier in 2024, Miftari was placed under court orders not to trespass at any University of Alberta campus location after reportedly harassing women on the campus. The same man, reported Edmonton media, has been previously convicted of criminal harassment and break and enter crimes in Ontario.

Wood Buffalo RCMP are asking the public not to approach Miftari if they see him, and to call the police immediately.

Faton Miftari is described as having a medium complexion standing 5 feet 9 inches tall and weighing approximately 165 lbs. He has brown hair and brown eyes. Wood Buffalo RCMP have also issued a photograph of the man, which has been released to all provincial media.

After missing his probation appointment, Miftari has now been charged with breaching a probation order.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Faton Miftari is cautioned not to approach him and instead to contact Wood Buffalo RCMP at 780-788-4000 or their local police. Anonymous tips can be directed to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
