The skies above the Lakeland and most of the province have been getting attention over the last few days for the spectacular aurora borealis displays, but down on the ground, Mother Nature has also been showing her creativity.
Morning frost across much of the Lakeland has offered a lower-level light show with the sun's rays sparkling off the hoar frost on the ground.
The Northern Lights are expected to be on historically-magnificent display for the next few days thanks to the arrival of geomagnetic storms in the atmosphere triggered by an increase in solar flares from the sun. On the ground, an increase of moisture in the air combined with quick-freeze temperatures forms the crystals on low-lying objects like grass, fences and trees.
