ST. PAUL – As spring arrives, the St. Paul Ag Society is gearing up to host its 25th Annual High School Rodeo from April 21 to 23. The three-day event promises to bring fast-paced rodeo action at the St. Paul Ag Corral, offering a little bit of everything for both seasoned rodeo fans and newcomers to the sport.

According to Brian Pederson, the rodeo's chairperson and organizer, spectators can expect to see some “high-calibre rides and fast times” from a diverse group of high school competitors, ranging from beginners to pros.

With boys and girls participating, the event promises a whole lot of excitement. “Some of these kids are already competing at the pro level,” explained Pederson.

Alberta High School Rodeo (AHSR) offers a diverse range of events, from bull riding to calf roping, steer wrestling, team roping and more. "It's a full-blown rodeo event – everything will be there. If you like rodeo, it'll be interesting," added Pederson.

He encourages spectators to bring their cushions, settle in, and watch the kids compete and develop their skills throughout the weekend.

The rodeo helps young competitors develop and grow in the sport. Pederson says he has watched as previous high school competitors become world champions, in the past.

“Come out and watch the rodeo stars of the future,” he said. There is also a camaraderie and sportsmanship that develops between the young competitors through the high school rodeo.

Pederson thanked the sponsors and volunteers of the upcoming event. Without their support, the event wouldn't be possible, he said.

Approximately 150 students will be competing in St. Paul. Friday’s performance will feature junior high school students, kicking off at noon.

The Saturday and Sunday performances will feature senior high school students from Grades 9 to 12. The performances will begin at noon on Saturday, and 10 a.m., on Sunday.

Competitors will be travelling to St. Paul from across the province, along with some coming from British Columbia and Saskatchewan.
