Lac La Biche golf greens go red and white for Canada Day

Patriotic putters hit the greens for annual Lac La Biche golf club fundraiser

Red and white ... and greens.  That was the colour scheme at the annual Canada Day Hole in One tournament at the Lac La Biche Golf Club on July 1.

More than 140 golfers took part in the annual event that serves as a fundraiser for the golf course and a celebration of the country.

Canada flags, red and white clothing options and a rousing version of Oh Canada to start the tournament kept the Canada Day theme rolling throughout the event that sees each of the 18 holes reduced to about 160 yard targets.

The combination of Canada Day and a hole-in-one tourney has been on the golf course calendar since 1995. In those years, only a handful of aces have been awarded – including one this year as Lac La Biche golfer Ali Abougouche drained a 154 yard shot onto the course's 13th green.
