LAKELAND – With all of the Lakeland Catholic School Division (LCSD) Board of Trustees having been acclaimed prior to the 2021 election, there was one main thing for the board to do during the LCSD board of trustees’ organizational meeting on Wednesday – select the chair and vice-chair.
The seven-member board voted to re-elect Diane Bauer to the position of chair and Mary Anne Penner to sit as vice-chair.
Bauer will remain as chair of the board for the 2021-22 school year, as she heads into her second term serving on the LCSD’s board of trustees. Penner is replacing outgoing trustee and vice-chair Margaret Borders.
Bauer and Penner will fill these roles for the next year, as the positions are voted on annually by the board of trustees.
In a statement Bauer said, “I look forward to continuing to make student-driven, faith-based decisions for Lakeland Catholic Schools as Chair of the board.”
Before joining the board, Bauer was the deputy superintendent for LCSD and worked for three decades as a teacher, as well as a division leader.
“I am passionate about Catholic education and providing our students with opportunities to not only grow deeper in their knowledge, but also their faith,” she said.
With over 30 years of experience serving as a trustee on the LCSD board, Penner will take on role of vice-chair. In her three decades on the board, Penner has held the position of chair, vice-chair and trustee at various times.
“Catholic education holds a special place in my heart, and I am grateful for the opportunity to serve as vice-chair of the LCSD Board of Trustees,” said Penner.
Before retiring in 2015, Penner served as the director of the Cold Lake Public Library for 28 years.
The Lakeland Catholic Division operates schools in Bonnyville, Cold Lake, Lac La Biche and Waskatenau.
Through acclamation and with all wards receiving at least one nomination, the 2021-25 board of trustees includes:

Bauer also thanked outgoing trustees Margaret Borders and Laurent Gamache for their years serving on the board.
