ELK POINT - A number of charges have been laid following a warrant operation in the Frog Lake and Fishing Lake areas on May 12.
Elk Point RCMP, with assistance from RCMP Air Services, Eastern Alberta District Rural Crime Reduction Unit and Cold Lake RCMP Police Dog Services, completed the warrant operation.
"A stolen vehicle was located near Fishing Lake and two suspects were arrested without incident," according to RCMP.
"Multiple charges were laid as a result of this operation," says Sgt. David Henry, Elk Point Detachment Commander. "We will continue to target known offenders in order to disrupt criminal activities."
Wayne Wheaton, 48, of Cold Lake and Billie Wheaton, 20, of Cold Lake were arrested for their outstanding warrants. Kannan Desjarlais, 23, of Cold Lake was also arrested for breaching his conditions. Both Wheaton's were released and are set to appear in Athabasca Provincial Court on July 27. Desjarlais was released after a judicial hearing and is set to appear in St. Paul Provincial Court on July 2.
Police were also patrolling in Fishing Lake and located a suspicious vehicle. When police emergency lights were activated the vehicle fled. It was later located abandoned and RCMP Police Dog Services assisted in tracking four suspects to a wooded area.
Harley Moyah, 20, of St. Paul was charged with:
· Flight from police
· Dangerous operation of motor vehicle
· Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose (x3)
· Possession of controlled substance
At the time of his arrest, Moyah was wanted for several previous offences. He was released after a judicial hearing and is set to appear in St. Paul Provincial Court on July 23
Murvanna Flamond, 2, of Fishing Lake was charged with:
· Possession of controlled substance (x2)
· Flight from police
· Dangerous operation of motor vehicle
· Possession of weapon for dangerous purposes (x3)
· Fail to comply with probation order (x2)
· Breach of a release order
She was remanded into custody after a judicial hearing and is set to appear in St. Paul Provincial Court on May 28.
A 25-year-old adult female and a youth male were also arrested and charged with several offences, according to RCMP. The name of the adult cannot be released at this time pending a swearing of an Information.
"Additional patrols located another suspicious vehicle coming out of a residence and it fled from police at high rate of speed. A tire deflation device was used to disable the vehicle," according to RCMP. "The suspect then fled on foot to an abandoned house and was arrested without incident."
Evan Gladue, 30, of Cold Lake was charged with:
· Flight from police
· Dangerous operation of motor vehicle
· Break and enter
· Obstruction
· Drive while prohibited (x2)
· Possession of weapon contrary to order
· Breach of probation
He was remanded into custody after a judicial hearing and will be appearing in St. Paul Provincial Court on May 21.
During the operation police seized what is believed to be methamphetamine, MDMA (ecstasy), bear spray and two knives.
