ST. PAUL – It was a day of fun and excitement for the St. Paul youths who learned to play tennis at the local tennis club on Tuesday, July 26.
The St. Paul Tennis Club ran its second youth Camp from July 25 to July 29. The club held its first camp at the beginning of the month, from July 4 to July 8.
"(Tennis) is one of the few sports that you can play well into your old age, and it's so much fun," said Noah Shankowski, a certified tennis instructor with the club. "(We're) just getting kids excited about tennis, playing the sport, and trying to get the families involved too."
According to Shankowski, there is no time limit for the youths to have fun playing the sport at the club. At the youth camp, he said participants get an hour of instruction time, but they are always free to come and play.
Angele Morrison said her children, Rory and Kyler, ages six and nine, have been interested in learning tennis. She signed them up for the camp, and they have been loving it.
"I think it's a great program (and) if other families are interested in learning about tennis, I encourage them to do it," she said. "And the coaches have been wonderful with the kids. So, I definitely encourage others to take part in it."
Noah Shankowski said the annual membership fee is $30 for children under 18, $40 for adults, and $70 for a family pass. The local tennis club is also running an adult tennis tournament in multiple categories on Aug. 20 and August 21, including a category for beginners who are just starting out with the sport.
