LAKELAND - RCMP across Alberta are advising people to stay off roadways, Thursday night.

"Alberta RCMP is advising of poor driving conditions throughout the majority of the province and are responding to numerous collisions," reads a statement dated Jan. 16, at about 9:35 p.m.

"Please stay off the roads unless absolutely necessary. Travel is not recommended," according to RCMP

Both AMA and 511 Alberta road reports are showing that travel is not recommended throughout a large portion of eastern Alberta.

A winter storm that included rain, freezing rain, snow and high winds moved across the province throughout the day.

Roads are reported to be snow covered, with wind gusting.

Schools divisions in the Lakeland have also announced that buses will be cancelled on Friday, including St. Paul Education, Northern Lights Public Schools and Lakeland Catholic School Division.
