ST. PAUL - Wednesday night kicked off five days of curling in St. Paul, as the opening ceremonies for the Sentinel Storage Alberta Scotties Tournament of Hearts took place at the Clancy Richard Arena.
Since Sunday night, work has been done to transform the arena into four sheets of curling ice - with all the finishing touches in place by Thursday evening. Following the opening ceremonies where curling traditions were acknowledged, speeches were given, a long list of thank-yous were given, and teams were introduced, the action began with a ceremonial first rock being thrown by long-time St. Paul Curling Club members, and the first draw taking place.
Results from the first night of curling saw Team Hunkin beat Team Vaughan 10-6, Team Skrlik beat Team Kaufman 11-4, Team Sturmay beat Team Richards 10-1, and Team Hartwell beat Team Gray-Withers 9-8.
