ELK POINT - Scoring the first goal in each period and another one along the way, while keeping pace with 38 shots on goal compared to 40 for the visitors, was just not enough for the Elk Point Elks of the SaskAlta Senior Hockey League to claim a home ice victory when the Meadow Lake Broncos came to town on Saturday evening.

Arron Gagne put the Elks on the scoreboard 30 seconds into the game, assisted by Curtis Witney and Brayden Labant, but the Broncos pounded in four before Dyson Roy scored off Kyle Desmit and Logan Nagel with 3:01 on the clock, the Broncos scoring one more before they headed to the dressing room with a 5-2 lead.

Roy scored for the Elks just under two minutes into the second, assisted by Calvin Laschowski, a reply coming from the Broncos four and a half minutes later to maintain the four goal lead, in a period when the Elks outshot the Broncos 11-8. Labant narrowed the lead to three in the first minute of the final frame, assisted by Silas Makokis, but the visiting net-minder shut the gate tight at that point, while his teammates added four more goals for a 10-4 final score.

This week, the Elks will host St. Walburg Eagles on Friday night before heading across the border Saturday to visit the Hillmond Hitmen for the first time this season.
