Lakeland soccer teams win provincial gold, silver and bronze medals

Eight Tier 4 indoor soccer teams from the Lakeland made the trip to Edmonton and Red Deer March 14-16 to compete in the Alberta Soccer Association provincial championship.

LAKELAND - A list of Tier 4 indoor soccer teams from the Lakeland made the trip to Edmonton and Red Deer from March 14-16 to compete in the Alberta Soccer Association provincial championship, and while all teams represented the region well, two teams came with provincial gold medals.

The Lakeland U19 boys' team, which is made up of soccer players from across the Lakeland, dominated on the field, winning their games, 5-0, 4-2, 9-0, and 2-0, and claiming gold.

The Bonnyville U15 girls' team also won gold, winning their games, 4-1, 4-2, 3-0, and 2-1. 

Also taking home medals were the U19 Lakeland girls' and U17 Bonnyville boys' teams, each grabbing silver medals.

The U17 Lakeland girls' team and the St. Paul U13 boys' team, coached by Glenn Andersen, won bronze medals. The St. Paul U13 boys also brought home a Fair Play award.

The U13 Bonnyville girls' teams came in fifth out of 13 teams, and the U15 boys' team from St. Paul came in sixth out of 13 teams.

Provincials will wrap up the indoor season for most youth teams in the Lakeland.
