Premier Academy coach Melissa Kirkendall shared her pride for their seven teams of cheerleaders who competed at the Take Flight event in Cold Lake that took place March 29 and 30.

BONNYVILLE- Premier Academy coach Melissa Kirkendall shared her pride for their seven teams of cheerleaders who competed at the Take Flight event in Cold Lake that took place March 29 and 30.

“Walking away with every single team placing first or second and winning bids was incredible . . . Every team in our program that was eligible to walk away with a bid, received one, so it was a really fantastic weekend for us,” said Kirkendall.

The athletes celebrated together after, and Kirkendall said the sense of accomplishment they all shared was unforgettable.

“It wasn’t just about the win. It was about seeing their hard work, perseverance, and teamwork pay off in such a meaningful way.”

Kirkendall attributes dedication to the sport as a huge part of their success.

“Our athletes truly love what they do, and that passion drives them to give their best every time they step onto the mat.”

Kirkendall said the teams put in countless hours of practice, and their commitment to improvement and excellence is what sets them apart.

“One of the strongest factors, though, is the team bond. Our athletes work together as a cohesive unit, and the closeness they share is a huge advantage. They treat each other like family, and that sense of camaraderie and support is vital to their performance.”

The hard work of not only the athletes but of the parents and coaches working together is an integral part of their success.

"It’s a team effort, and every person involved has contributed to helping our athletes reach their full potential.”

Kirkendall spoke about their experience at the Take Flight competition, saying it was amazing to see all the teams coming together to showcase their hard work and talent.

“The atmosphere was filled with anticipation and pride. We knew out athletes had prepared for this moment and were ready to give it their all.”

Kirkendall said seeing all their teams support one another made the experience even more special.

“The encouragement and love they showed one another throughout the competition was heartwarming. Watching the athletes cheer for each other and celebrate each other’s successes really highlighted the close-knit, family-like bond we have within our gym.”

Kirkendall said all the coaches at Premier Academy share an incredible bond with the teams, and coaching goes beyond training skills. It’s about forming relationships with each unique athlete, and helping these kids reach their potential.

“The trust and respect between the coaches and athletes is something truly special, and it’s amazing to see that reflected in the way our teams work together on and off the floor.”
