ST. PAUL – The St. Paul Canadiens U15 female team is hosting the ‘U15 Female B’ Hockey Alberta Provincial Championship in St. Paul from March 27 to 30 at the Clancy Richard Arena and CAP Arena.
Anna Scheffelmiar, president of St. Paul Minor Hockey, says preparations are now underway. Some bid requirements to host the provincials involve the host ensuring there are enough hotel rooms for visiting teams, as well as enough volunteers to run the tournament.
“Everybody . . . is doing the best they can to make sure things are going to run smoothly,” she said, while inviting the community to come out, watch some hockey, and give their support to the home team.
“The fans are what makes it.”
Scheffelmiar also expressed her excitement for the tournament. “It's always good for the community to bring others to our town.”
St. Paul Minor Hockey season update
Providing an update on the minor hockey season so far, Scheffelmiar says the season has been going well.
This year, the association saw 298 kids registered throughout all levels.
“So, we’re managing quite a bit of kids this year,” says Scheffelmiar.
“Even our pond program’s the biggest it’s ever been,” she adds, with over 40 skaters registered.
While the season is slowly winding down, Scheffelmiar says there is still plenty of hockey events coming up for the community to check out, including the Timbits Future All-Star Game on Feb. 21, and 3 vs. 3 Spring Hockey taking place in March and April.
