U11 Storm take silver at provincial tournament

The St. Paul Storm took silver at this year's U11A provincial tournament.

ST. PAUL - The St. Paul Storm U11 team travelled to Lacombe over the August long weekend for a weekend filled with baseball, returning home with some newfound hardware.

The team competed in the U11A provincials and started the weekend with a loss, but came back strong with two wins. Those wins earned the team a spot in the gold medal match-up against the Sherwood Park Athletics.

Despite their best efforts, the St. Paul team would lose 9-4, but claim the silver medals.

Coach Daryl Naundorf said he “Couldn't be more proud” of his team.

Despite a bit of a shaky and uncertain start to the season due to the ongoing pandemic, the young players put in the extra work needed to get strong results.

“Coming into the season, we were on the fence about how it would go. The kids were really good about wanting to put in extra time,” said Naundorf. He said the players made up for any challenges by working on their own time.

“We had a great group of kids and a great group of parents,” said the coach, adding, the kids proved they really wanted to play ball.
