It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Betty Upham on June 29th, 2024 at 97 years old, after a month long stay in the hospital as a result of a fall. She was born in Malton, Yorkshire, England on Nov 13, 1926 and emigrated to Canada with her husband, Richard and children in 1972. Betty had a career as a teacher, first at West Lutton and then at Malton, prior to being thrust into a life of a farmer’s wife and future mother of 4 children. She spent many years travelling with our father as his organist. She served 20 years at the Ashmont United Church, and also as father’s musical support at many weddings and funerals throughout N.E. Alberta. Wherever Dad was, Mum wasn’t far behind. Her love of music was instilled in us, her children. The last few years of her life were spent in St. Albert surrounded by family. She is survived by her daughter, Susan (Brad Mills) and children, Emily and Greg (Grace); son, Stephen and children, Rachael, Michael (Jordan), Zachary (Kelly), Eric (Lorelei), their mother, Gerry. Partner Kimberley and her son, Alexander; son, Paul (Andrea) and children, Matthew (Laura), Alexandra (Cole Vinke); daughter, Kathryn (Dean Bidlock) and children, Naomi (Matthew Hansen), Mallory; great grand children, Jack and Jude Janssen, Tanner, Brynn and Jayden Hansen, Sophie and Freddie Mills, Jensen Vinek, Hayden Upham and Harvey Upham. Betty was predeceased by her husband of 65 yrs, Richard, her father, Robert Spink and her mother, Anne Spink. Although she lived a full and happy life, she will be missed by all that knew her. Cremation has taken place and a private Memorial Celebration for family will take place on July 18th. Many thanks for all the messages of love and sympathy received from family and friends.
