Municipalities want end to oil and gas property tax loopholes

Municipalities want end to oil and gas property tax loopholes

They have been trying to the Government to get rid of the loop holes for nine years, so I don't think it is the Municipalities that have been causing the problem. If I didn't pay my taxes someone would come and repossess my property and probably throw me in jail as well. Time to get the AER to not be bought and paid for by the oil, gas and coal companies....self regulation doesn't work and never will.

Todd Loewen has a conflict of interest. Now he makes it possible to use laser scopes. Protecting our wildlife is not in his “scope”….not even close. He should be removed from this ministry before all our big game animals are on the threatened species list!

Just watch this government let them. Out of sight ..out of mind. Except the Alberta people have a brain. The majority of the people in Alberta are very tired of resource businesses getting away with making our water toxic by not being held accountable for the toxins and eyesores these resource extraction companies are by law supposed to clean up.

I am both angry and appalled. Guess what... Any surprise? That my letter to the unhonourable minister Loewen didn't even get a form letter back to me? I am disgusted by the corruption of the UCP. He doesn't own the company anymore as his brother "bought him out" and Todd's son works for this brother......where is the conflict of interest? Really pretty well right in front of the UCP caucus.

It actually is criminal. Disgusting UCP policies that are not based in science. Maybe those hunters should be treed by their dogs and then shot. UCP are unethical and money hungry criminals filling their own pockets. It is like they have their own little kingdom that we are just the peons. I am beyond done with this government and their corruption.

This is crazy at a time that the UCP government is going to spend $29 million to appease Rump and his accusations that there are drugs, migrants and guns being smuggled into the US from Canada. Smith bent down to Trump to "fix" this problem. It has been proven his accusations are a figment of his imagination...a lie and is a dog whistle to his base. Now Smith is continuing the lie and dog whistle to her base over some border issues that actually don't exist or are occurring very rarely and are hardly common. Why is it that this Government defunds our municipalities like Banff policing as well as many other services while policing a very expensive and ridiculous pet peeve? It is not Canadians who defend the US border, but the responsibility of US to keep their country safe with their own dollars. We need a new government to deal with issues that important to the majority of Albertans and not the UCP right wing nuts.

Mortimer please name those communities worldwide that have coexisting mines and tourism? Bet there aren’t really many places. It has been very obvious that our Alberta governments have never actually had large enough bonds in place that are able to fully reclaim the destruction of the environment, which occurs in open pit mining. It has been been proven many times, especially given that we have seen these same bonds in oil and gas and yet we are still sitting with billions of dollars in oil and gas reclamation that are now left for the tax payers of this province to pay. Jim Gough from Canmore is “spot on” in his analysis of what has happened in the case of the Nordegg Mining Co. What will the community of the CNP area have other than the destruction of the one of the most beautiful areas of the eastern slopes than the legacy of mining of the past of death, disease and under employment that has plagued this area for years? Tourism is sustainable….mining is not.

This is a very thoughtful and factual account of the party in power…UCP party of clowns trying to mimic the corrupt and dangerous playbook of the Republican Party who presently are displaying its true colours right before the world’s eyes with most republicans purposely ignoring any moral fibre that that may still have left in search of power and money. Do we let the UCP do the same thing to Alberta? I hope not for the sake of our beautiful province.
