Annual poppy campaign begins in St. Paul

The St. Paul Royal Canadian Legion raised the poppy flag on Oct. 25, marking the beginning of the annual poppy campaign.

ST. PAUL – On Oct. 25, the poppy flag rose as the wind blew lightly at the St. Paul Legion hall.

At the foot of the pole, members of the St. Paul Royal Canadian Legion (RCL) stood shoulder to shoulder, each wearing a small red poppy – bright against the subdued colours of their jackets.

As the flag reached the top, catching the wind as it unfurled against the morning sky, it signalled the beginning of the annual poppy campaign on Oct. 25.

It was the beginning of a promise - a promise to remember.

The RCL will deliver poppies and wreaths to businesses throughout town to raise funds for veterans and their families. The campaign will last until Remembrance Day, Nov. 11.
