Athletes compete at senior SPAA badminton championship, head to zones

About 130 athletes competed during the Senior St. Paul Athletics Association badminton championships on April 17. Top qualifying students are now in Fort McMurray to play at NEASAA zones.

ST. PAUL – About 130 athletes competed during the Senior SPAA (St. Paul Athletics Association) badminton championships at Glen Avon School and St. Paul Regional High School on April 17.

The day ran smoothly and the top players and teams will compete at the Northeast Alberta Schools’ Athletic Association zone tournament on April 24, says Claude Cote, a coach and teacher with Mallaig School and the SPAA commissioner for badminton.

Qualifying students from the region left for NEASAA zones in Fort McMurray on Tuesday afternoon.
