Five colourful rock snakes need your help to grow

Across the St. Paul region, a family of five painted rock snakes are needing the community’s help to grow and maybe even reach each other.

ST. PAUL – Across the St. Paul region, a family of five painted rock snakes are needing the community’s help to grow and maybe even reach each other.

The project is being hosted by the St. Paul Regional Family & Community Support Services (FCSS) and includes rock snakes at the Mallaig Public Park, the Ashmont Outdoor Skating Rink, and another by the splash park at the Westcove campground.

Two rock snakes are also located within the Town of St. Paul. One at the west side of Lagasse Park, and the other at Glen Avon School.

Brooke Dechaine and Emma Fodness are among the organizers of the event. They say the five snakes are siblings. Unfortunately, they are not yet long enough to travel to see and connect with one another.

Fodness says the community can help them grow by adding painted rocks to their tails.

Dechaine says residents are encouraged to paint and decorate rocks however they want.

“It’s meant to be fun, light, and easy.”

The event aims to promote community connections, adds Dechaine. She hopes to build that connection by having families and community members “out and about together doing fun activities.”

People are also welcome to visit each of the five snakes, Dechaine says. Painting the rocks and visiting the different snake locations not only allows for creative fun but also encourages people to travel and connect with other communities.

The idea is to allow people to have a fun shared experience with each other, says Dechaine.

“This could be friends, family, or neighbours you might not have met yet.”

People can also take a photo with their painted rock and the snake and email the photo to Dechaine at [email protected] to enter a draw to win a prize.

People can add their painted rocks to the snakes until Aug. 15.
