ST. PAUL – Last month, the Government of Alberta approved a $150,000 grant to study how garbage is collected and how recycling works in the St. Paul region and surrounding area. The initiative is called the Regional Service Delivery - Waste Management project.

The funding comes from the Intermunicipal Collaboration component of the Alberta Community Partnership (ACP) program.

The study is a collaboration between members of the Evergreen Regional Waste Management Services Commission, which includes the villages of Vilna and Waskatenau, the towns of Elk Point, St. Paul, and Smoky Lake, and the County of St. Paul and Smoky Lake County.

The Town of St. Paul is the managing partner for the project.

The study will identify overlaps, gaps, and opportunities for a regionalized waste management service delivery in the region, explained Steven Jeffery, CAO for the Town of St. Paul.

"The work will include an extensive look into the operations, capacity and management of municipal solid waste activities" conducted within each of the partnering communities, he said.
