HEINSBURG – The story of the fabled Polar Express chugged onto the stage of Heinsburg Community School on Dec. 19, with five Grade 6 students telling the tale to open the school’s 2023 Christmas program, following a welcome message from teacher Brenda Paulo-Begg.
Kindergarten and Grade 1 students were next on the program with a pair of poems followed by an action song, ‘The Great Christmas Tree Hunt.’ Grade 2 and 3 students were next up, switching their pointed ‘I Want To Be An Elf’ headgear for Santa hats as they demonstrated the ‘Sounds of Santa’s Workshop’.
Students Arlena and Kiera sang Sia’s YouTube hit, ‘Snowman’ before the Grade 4 and 5 students bounced on stage with ‘Jingle Bells’ before determinedly declaring, “I Want a Hippopotamus For Christmas!”
The Grade 6 students returned to the stage with flutes to play three Christmas favourites, followed by the Junior High group with their sad but hilarious story of how “Kokum Got Run Over By A Reindeer.”
The Cree Class students of all ages wrapped up the program as they sang in Cree to the sound of traditional drums in a unique version of ‘Little Drummer Boy’.
A book fair in the school library, a silent auction and the school’s Christmas supper wound up an exciting and very enjoyable day for the large and appreciative crowd in attendance.
