ELK POINT – Mayor Parrish Tung told council at the Jan. 27 meeting that a potential additional physician for Elk Point has now visited the community, and earlier that day, the mayor had taken him and his wife on a tour of the town, including touring the Healthcare Centre, the new medical clinic, which is still under renovation, and the elementary school.

The visiting physician is currently practicing in Calgary, and originally from Nigeria. He formerly practiced in England for a number of years. His wife still resides in England and is completing registered nurse training.

Meeting the couple was “Such a pleasant experience,” the mayor said. “And he was pleased to see that we plow the snow on residential streets.”

Gwozdz was also ”Very impressed with him, he very much liked Elk Point, he understands people and is very sharp.”

While the Town was still waiting for written confirmation that the County of St. Paul will share the legal fees involved, a motion was passed to direct administration to contact the town’s solicitors to prepare a new agreement for future physicians.

The family’s potential move to Elk Point, Mayor Tung told council, “Will all depend on Alberta Health Services,” which could be an easier transition since the physician is already working in the province.
